If you look up Kindred in the dictionary it states; One’s family and relations, family<\/span>,\u00a0relatives,\u00a0relations,\u00a0kin<\/span>,\u00a0family members,\u00a0connections,\u00a0kith and kin,\u00a0one’s own flesh and blood,\u00a0clan<\/span>,\u00a0tribe<\/span>,\u00a0house<\/span>,\u00a0lineage<\/span>; informal <\/i>folks.<\/p>\n I was on ancestry.com which is so interesting that it can cause you not to want to do anything else.\u00a0 If you know someone researching their family tree, they will tell you the same thing.\u00a0 Originally I was on there to learn about my great grandfather on my mother’s side.\u00a0 My grandmother has no idea who her father was.\u00a0 She has never even seen a picture of him.\u00a0 As a child, she would ask her mother about him but she told her that there was no need to talk about him.\u00a0 My grandmother is halfway through her 90’s and I wanted to find something out but I couldn’t.\u00a0 It was as if he just vanished.<\/p>\n While I was on this trail, my father’s side of the family kept popping up.\u00a0 Kindred is not a widely given surname.\u00a0 Once I moved over to my dad’s side, everything started lining up.\u00a0 It took me all the way back to my 6 times Great Grandfather, Bartholomew Kindred.\u00a0 Bartholomew was the first to come from England to America.\u00a0 He ended up being the Master Weaver for Thomas Jefferson at Monticello from 1776 to 1778.\u00a0 He came during the Revolutionary War.\u00a0 His son’s who were from England ended up fighting in the Revolutionary War on the American side.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I could go on in great detail but I won’t.\u00a0 The point of this story is to tell you of their strength.\u00a0 They came by ship via France to America.\u00a0 Can you imagine the ship ride?\u00a0 This was not a carnival cruise, this was real life.\u00a0 No running water.\u00a0 Probably hardly any food.<\/p>\n According to “Passage To America”, the ship ride was described as such; “…during the voyage there is on board these ships terrible misery, stench, fumes, horror, vomiting, many kinds of seasickness, fever, dysentery, headache, heat, constipation, boils, scurvy, cancer, mouth rot, and the like, all of which come from old and sharply-salted food and meat, also from very bad and foul water, so that many die miserably.<\/em><\/p>\n I can’t even imagine.\u00a0 Now, this is strength and being tough.\u00a0 This is trying to escape to live a dream.\u00a0 You leave your home country via France because you could be murdered for treason.\u00a0 Your wife and your children must board a ship for what must have been a horrendous trip to make it to America.<\/p>\n That is bravery.\u00a0 That is strength.\u00a0 That is being strong when you don’t think you can but you have to be.\u00a0 That is The Kindred Way.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Here today, we are “Just living The Dream” or at least trying to live that way.\u00a0 What is the dream?\u00a0 It is what you want it to be for you.\u00a0 It is trying new things.\u00a0 Branching out doing things you have always wanted to do but didn’t think you could.\u00a0 It is being brave and taking a leap of faith.\u00a0 Here you will find us doing easy, fun stuff along with serious, important stuff.\u00a0 It’s being who you always wanted to be but couldn’t.\u00a0 It is trying to be healthy when you haven’t been for a while.\u00a0 It is being creative when you don’t have a creative bone in your body.\u00a0 It is learning to be self-sufficient when you don’t know where to begin.\u00a0 No matter what we do, we are doing it The Kindred Way<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Until next time,<\/p>\n Kari<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The name of this website is “The Kindred Way”.\u00a0 What does that really mean? <\/div>\nMy dad<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\nWhat a wonderful word.\u00a0 Kindred<\/strong>.\u00a0 It means family and kinship and togetherness.\u00a0 It is everything wonderful and good.\u00a0 A connection that people share whether family or from experiences.\u00a0 In my case, I am lucky enough to have been born with this name.\u00a0 That’s right, my birth surname is Kindred.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/thekindredway.com\/test\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Faces-TKW-1-1024x512.png\")
<\/div>\nMy family<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\nThe name of this website isn’t just about a last name.\u00a0 It is about togetherness, and strength and being tough when you don’t think you can but you have to be.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\nI happen to have two kids that have autism.\u00a0 One has Asperger’s Syndrome and the other has a more severe case and will never live on his own.\u00a0 I never wanted this for them and I never wanted to be this strong.\u00a0 It is exhausting.\u00a0 I had to be tough even when I didn’t think I could be this tough and this strong.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\nIt started with my ancestors.<\/h2>\n
